The dental program is open to all current Avis Goodwin Community Health Center patients.  Currently, new adult patients to the agency will either have to wait 3 months to access the program or receive a referral from one of our primary care providers for dental treatment.  All children living in Strafford County, NH with Healthy Kids Gold or Silver will be accepted.

Smiles for Strafford County

Currently, four elementary schools in Strafford County participate in our school-based dental program, Smiles for Strafford County.  At the beginning of each school year a hygienist will visit grades kindergarten through third in each of the four elementary schools to provide grade specific oral health education.  All children are provided with information about the program and also consent forms, giving parents the opportunity to participate in the program.  Eligibility for the program is defined as children who do not have a dental home or have not seen a dentist in over 18 months.  Parents who decide to have their children participate in the program; will receive a free dental screening from the hygienist to identify if the child will need placement of sealants on their six year molars, a dental cleaning and/or fluoride treatments.  Volunteer dentists are also on site diagnosing and approving treatments to be completed on the children.  Our Hygienist will also assist parents in finding a dental home for any child seen in the school.

Currently, tooth decay is the single most chronic childhood disease and on average, 51 million school hours are lost each year to dental related disease.  It is our goal to educate children about the importance of oral health as early as possible.  Education is the key to proper oral hygiene, along with good nutrition and healthy snack choices.
